How this works
The maths is simple and deliberately transparent: amount × rate, or amount ÷ rate, depending on direction. What changes everything is the rate you use. Since this site has no link to a live quote service, the rate shown is a snapshot of the ECB euro reference rates from 24 June 2026. Treat it as a starting point, not as today’s truth: open the ECB link, read today’s value and type it into the rate field before you trust the result.
- 1
Pick the currencies and the amount
Set the from-currency, the to-currency and the amount. The swap button flips the two currencies in one click.
- 2
Confirm (and update) the rate
The "Exchange rate" field is prefilled with the ECB reference. Compare it with today’s rate and correct it if it is out of date.
- 3
Read the result with a critical eye
The figure is at the reference (mid-market) rate. What you get at a bank or bureau is typically 1% to 3% less, because of spread and fees.
Frequently asked
Is the exchange rate updated automatically?
No. This site is static, so the rate does not change on its own. The value shown is a European Central Bank reference rate from 24 June 2026 — a snapshot, not a live quote. Before doing any calculation that matters, copy the current rate from the ECB (link below) into the "Exchange rate" field.
Why does my bank give me a different amount?
The ECB reference rate is the mid-market midpoint. When you actually change money, a bank or bureau applies a spread (buys low, sells high) and often a fee. Expect to receive less than this calculation shows. For a realistic estimate, nudge the rate down 1% to 3% depending on the channel.
What does "1 EUR = 1.1340 USD" mean?
It means one euro is worth 1.1340 dollars. To go from euros to dollars you multiply by it; to go from dollars to euros you divide. The tool does this for you and shows the direction of the rate it is using, so there is no mix-up.
Can I convert between two non-euro currencies?
Yes. If you pick, say, dollars to pounds, the rate is derived from the two euro rates (USD→EUR→GBP). It is still editable: if you have a better direct quote, type it into the rate field.
Where do I see today’s official rate?
The European Central Bank publishes euro reference rates every working day at around 16:00 (Lisbon/CET time). Banco de Portugal has a converter using the same rates. Both links are in the sources section.
