How this works
RSI is not one fixed amount for everyone. Segurança Social first calculates the household ceiling and then subtracts countable income. This tool performs that main calculation and warns when the declared movable assets exceed 60 IAS in 2026. The real claim remains subject to the other legal conditions and Segurança Social's assessment.
- 1
Calculate the household ceiling
Segurança Social starts from €247.56 for the applicant. It adds €173.29 for each other adult and €123.78 for each minor in the household.
- 2
Separate work income and other income
For an initial claim, the practical guide counts 80% of work income after Social Security contributions, including the monthly share of allowances. Pensions, rents, countable social benefits and other income count at 100%.
- 3
Use 50% only for the work-return incentive
If someone starts working after already receiving RSI, only 50% of that work income counts during the first 12 months, consecutive or not. The tool option exists for that specific case.
- 4
Subtract countable income
The estimated benefit is the difference between the household ceiling and countable income. If income reaches or exceeds the ceiling, the estimate is zero.
- 5
Check the asset limit
In 2026, deposits, shares, savings certificates and other financial assets of the household cannot exceed 60 times the IAS, or €32,227.80. The tool flags this exclusion, but does not replace the full resource test.
Frequently asked
What is the RSI amount in 2026?
The RSI reference value in 2026 is €247.56. To calculate the household ceiling, count 100% for the applicant, 70% for each other adult and 50% for each minor.
Does the calculator result guarantee I will receive RSI?
No. The tool estimates only the numeric part: household composition, countable income and the movable-asset limit. Segurança Social also checks legal residence, age, job-centre registration where applicable, extreme-poverty status, the insertion contract, imprisonment, state-funded institutions and other elements of the claim.
What income should I put under work?
Use the household monthly work income after Social Security contributions. If income varies, the practical guide uses the average of the 3 months before the claim. Include the monthly share of holiday and Christmas allowances where applicable.
Why does only 80% of work income count?
In the RSI calculation, Segurança Social counts 80% of work income after Social Security contributions. Other countable income enters at 100%.
When does the 50% rule apply?
It applies when the RSI applicant or someone in the household starts working after already receiving the benefit. During the first 12 months, consecutive or not, only 50% of that work income counts.
Does the asset limit include the home I live in?
The €32,227.80 limit shown here is for movable assets: bank deposits, shares, bonds, savings certificates and financial holdings. Property enters the resource test under its own rules, for example when the permanent home is worth more than 450 IAS.
DISCLAIMER
Informational estimate based on the RSI Practical Guide published by Segurança Social on 3 July 2026 and Portaria 71/2026/1. It calculates only the base monthly formula for 2026 and the 60-IAS movable-asset limit (€32,227.80). It does not validate residence, age, job-centre registration, voluntary unemployment, insertion contract, refugee/asylum status, imprisonment, state-funded institutions, property, imputed capital income, legal household composition or every detail of the resource test.
