How this works

The calculator uses the fees in Portaria 361/2023 and the delivery times published by the IRN on 29 October 2026. Everything runs in your browser.

  1. 1
    The passport fee
Everyone pays the same base fee, first passport or renewal, at any age: €65 when you apply in Portugal and €75 at a consulate. The frequent-traveller passport, with 48 pages instead of 32, costs €100 in Portugal and €115 at a consulate.
  2. 2
    The speed
The express service adds €20 in Portugal and €35 abroad; the urgent one adds €30 in Portugal, €35 with collection at Lisbon Airport and €45 abroad. In these two services, home delivery is already included in the fee. If the deadline is missed for a reason that is not yours, the special-service fee is refunded.
  3. 3
    The extras
On the normal service, getting the passport at home costs €10 more in Portugal and €30 abroad. If you had a still-valid passport and do not hand it in because it was lost or stolen, €40 is added. The calculator adds up the parts that apply to your case and shows when the passport will be ready.

Frequent-traveller passport at a consulate: €115 plus the same service fees. If the deadline is missed for a reason not attributable to you, the express or urgent fee is refunded. The times are the IRN’s; for Madeira and Porto Santo, Portaria 361/2023 counts one more working day for urgent requests (on Porto Santo, also for normal and express).

Where to apply and what to bring

You apply in person at a civil registry office (registo civil), at the Lojas de Cidadão, at the Passport Shop at Lisbon Airport or the Porto Airport shop (both by appointment), with the Regional Governments of the Azores and Madeira, or at a consulate abroad. Booking is free on the Siga portal or the sigaApp. Bring a valid Cartão de Cidadão or Bilhete de Identidade and, for a renewal, the old passport. If your ID has expired, renew it first: see the Cartão de Cidadão fees, and check your card number with the Cartão de Cidadão validator.

  • Under 18: the child’s valid Cartão de Cidadão or Bilhete de Identidade, plus the ID of the person with parental responsibility; if that person is a foreign national, proof that they live legally in Portugal (valid passport or visa, or residence permit).
  • Collection: at the place where you applied, or at the address you give. Passports not collected within six months are sent back to be destroyed.

Lost or stolen passport, temporary passport and home visits

CASECOSTWHAT TO KNOW
Lost or stolen passport that was still valid+ €40Added to the new passport’s fee. You sign a declaration on your honour on the official form. Abroad, the new passport can be requested online, keeps the old one’s validity and is collected at the consulate you choose.
Temporary passport€150Exceptional cases; not electronic, valid for up to one year. Free when the need comes from a disaster, war, serious public disorder or force majeure.
Second passport (where the law allows it)+ €10Added to the other fees.
External service (IRN comes to you)+ €50For people who cannot travel to a counter, where the law allows it; added to the other fees.

A new passport is issued free when the data are wrong because of a service error, noticed when you collect it, or when it fails within six months for a reason that is not yours, such as a manufacturing defect.

The passport is what you need to travel outside the European Union and the Schengen Area. Inside the EU, the Cartão de Cidadão is valid as an identity document.

Frequently asked

How much does a Portuguese passport cost in 2026?
A normal request costs €65 in Portugal and is ready in 5 working days. Express costs €85 (2 working days), urgent €95 (1 working day) and urgent with same-day collection at Lisbon Airport €100. At a consulate, a normal request costs €75. The fees come from Portaria 361/2023 and have not changed since.
How long does the passport take?
On the mainland, in Madeira and on São Miguel or Terceira, 5 working days for a normal request, 2 for express and 1 for urgent. On the other Azores islands and Porto Santo it takes 1 to 3 working days longer. At consulates it ranges from 5 working days in Europe to 30 days in the United States; in countries served by diplomatic bag there is no forecast.
Can I get the passport the same day?
Yes, with the urgent request with collection at Lisbon Airport: it costs €100 (€135 for a frequent-traveller passport), must be made by 11 am at any counter, and the passport is handed over at the airport from 5:15 pm. The Passport Shop at Lisbon Airport and the Porto Airport shop work by appointment.
Is a child’s passport cheaper?
No. The portaria has no reduced fee by age: a child pays the same €65 for a normal request, and the passport is valid for the same 5 years. Bring the child’s Cartão de Cidadão and the ID of the person with parental responsibility. For the child to leave the country without the parents, a written authorisation with a certified signature is needed.
I lost my passport. How much is the new one?
If the lost or stolen passport was still valid, you pay the normal fee for the new one plus €40, because you cannot hand the old one in to be cancelled. You sign a declaration on your honour at the counter and undertake to return the old one if you recover it. If you lose it abroad, you can apply for the new one online and collect it at the consulate you choose.
How much does it cost to renew a passport?
The same as a new passport: there are no second copies and no separate renewal fee. Renewal on expiry can be requested in the 6 months before the passport expires. You need a valid Cartão de Cidadão or Bilhete de Identidade; if it has expired, renew it first.
