In 2026 Portugal’s IAS (Indexante dos Apoios Sociais, the social support index) is €537.13 a month, set by Portaria 480-A/2025/1 from 1 January: 2.8%, or €14.63, more than 2025’s €522.50. It is the unit the law uses to size benefits and income limits, from unemployment benefit (between 1 and 2.5 IAS) to child benefit. For 2027, the Lei 53-B/2006 formula with INE data up to September gives about €555.39; the official value comes in the December portaria (ministerial order).
The converter multiplies any number of IAS by that year’s value, or does the sum the other way round. The simulator applies the art. 5 formula of Lei 53-B/2006 to the two INE indicators you choose; by default it uses the same scenario as the pension increase page (GDP 2.2%, CPI excluding housing 2.9%). Everything runs in your browser.
Every value with the diploma that set it and the indicators it used. From 2010 to 2016 the update was suspended by law and the IAS stayed at €419.22; in 2021 there was no new portaria because inflation excluding housing was practically zero and the safeguard clause kept the 2020 value.

IPC = 12-month average CPI excluding housing; PIB = two-year average real GDP growth to Q3. 2007: starting value under art. 3 of Lei 53-B/2006. 2008: GDP of one year only (art. 9). 2019: the portaria applied 1.60% to 1.03 + 0.2 × 2.58 = 1.546, taking the rate to two decimals before rounding to one. 2021: Portaria 27/2020 stayed in force; art. 7-A(2), added by Decree-Law 16-A/2021 with effect from 1 January 2021, keeps the IAS when the update would be negative.
From 2007 to 2026 the IAS rose 35%, from €397.86 to €537.13. It stood still in eight of those years, so it fell behind the minimum wage, which went from €403 in 2007 to €920 in 2026 (+128%).
The 2027 IAS is only set by the portaria, usually published in December after INE releases November inflation; the 2025 one came out on 6 January with effect from 1 January. With the data INE had published by 13 October 2026, the formula gives:
| CPI TO NOVEMBER | RISE (GDP 2.2%) | IAS 2027 | IF GDP < 2% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.6% | 3.1% | €553.78 | €551.10 |
| 2.7% | 3.2% | €554.32 | €551.63 |
| 2.8% | 3.3% | €554.86 | €552.17 |
| 2.9% | 3.4% | €555.39 | €552.71 |
| 3.0% | 3.5% | €555.93 | €553.24 |
Estimates, not official values. Each new monthly CPI from INE and the Q3 GDP figure move the estimate; the IAS that counts is the one in the portaria.
Benefits, limits and deductions that the law writes as a multiple or a percentage of the IAS, with the 2026 amount and the article. Each benefit has more conditions than the line shows; the table answers “how much is the IAS part”.

Amounts = multiple × €537.13, rounded to the cent, except the RSI reference value and the dependency supplement, which their portarias set in euros. Abono bands for 2026 claims use 2025 income and the 2025 IAS, as the law and the Segurança Social guide say; children already receiving abono are assessed on 2024 income. See the abono de família calculator, the unemployment benefit simulator and the recibos verdes calculator.
There is no “household IAS”: the IAS is one figure for the whole country. What each benefit calculates is the household’s income, per person or per reference unit, and then compares it with a multiple of the IAS. Child benefit is the most searched case. Segurança Social adds up the household’s yearly income, divides it by the number of children entitled to abono plus one, and places the result in a band.
Example for a claim made in 2026: two parents earned €18,000 in 2025 and have two children. Reference income: €18,000 ÷ (2 + 1) = €6,000. The 2025 IAS gives €3,657.50 for 0.5 × 14 and €7,315.00 for 1 × 14, so €6,000 sits in the 2nd band.
Other benefits look at monthly income: the social pension requires gross income up to 40% of the IAS (60% for a couple) and the social unemployment benefit a household income per person up to 80% of the IAS. The 240 × IAS (€128,911.20) limit applies to savings and investments, not income.
Several amounts often quoted as “IAS” follow the minimum wage or are fixed in euros:
Decree-Law 166/2026 of 13 August creates the prestação social única (PSU, single social benefit), with effect from 31 December 2026. It absorbs 13 non-contributory benefits, including the RSI, the social old-age pension, the social unemployment benefit and the social parental benefits. Its reference value is 50% of the IAS (art. 7): €268.57 at the 2026 IAS, about €277.69 at the 2027 estimate. Current RSI and social pension recipients move to the PSU automatically, with the amount they receive guaranteed (art. 57). The 60 × IAS savings cap carries over, and the PSU with its supplements cannot exceed a household cap of 6 × IAS in non-contributory support (art. 25). Until then, the RSI calculator still applies.
The salário mínimo and the RMMG (retribuição mínima mensal garantida) are the same thing: RMMG is its legal name. The IAS is a different figure. Until 2006 the minimum wage was also the reference for benefits; since 2007 the IAS has taken that role (art. 8 of Lei 53-B/2006). Details of the minimum wage, net pay and regional values are on the minimum wage page.
